Kristina Strandberg came to the USA in 1999 as a recruited
skier from Sweden. Her original plan was to return home this
past spring after finishing her Masters Degree in Statistics,
but, as she puts it, "Things change." You see, Kristina
was accepted into the Ph.D. program at the University of New
Mexico, the same school she finished her undergraduate and
masters work at. She has started the Ph.D. program, and was
also awarded the NCAA post-graduate scholarship.
Like most competitive, successful athletes Kristina is not
willing to put ski racing aside for good. She joined the Subaru
Factory Team with hopes of skiing well in the American Marathon
Series this season, and competing in races she believes are
her strength - the long ones. In her spare time, though there
is seldom much of it, Kristina may be found knitting or weaving.
Though, when the fall leaves are changing, and the winter
grows near, you would most likely find her outside hiking
or just enjoying the foliage. Take a moment to meet Kristina
this winter, and enjoy watching her race - we all certainly
stand to learn a great deal from someone as smart and talented
as Kristina Strandberg.
