"Professionally Balanced"
Normally in Minnesota, one pines for their high school racing
days long after high school is over. Abby Larson left high
school to focus on skiing. At age seventeen, Abby began skiing
with the now defunct Gitchi Gummi "Elite Team",
training full time with Nikolai Anikin. He first year racing,
Abby didn't qualify for the Midwest team to ski in Junior
Nationals. Two years later she was on the World Junior Team
and hasn't looked back. "I like to have a lot of things
going on at once. I focus on skiing but I can't JUST focus
on skiing." Abby explained while racing on the Nor- Am
circuit. Abby was a top finisher at NCAA's in 2000 posting
a sixth place in a Northern Michigan University racing suit.
After college, Abby drove the entire distance to Jim Galanes'
APU program.
After a short stint in Anchorage, Abby joined the Subaru
Factory Team in 2003 and moved back to Marquette, MI to finish
her Masters degree in Exercise Science. After a successful
few years in Bozeman, MT, which included making the 2006 Olympic
Team, Larson moved to Salt Lake City to pursue her Ph.D. She
continues to freelance write and consults in exercise physiology
and nutrition.
